JOB SUMMARY The Deputy Manager, Technical Accounting supports the Head of Technical Accounting in providing technical guidance, maintaining policy governance, and ensuring the consistent application of accounting standards across EPF and its subsidiaries. The role involves monitoring developments or updates in IFRS, MFRS, and other relevant standards, advising on the accounting treatment for various transactions and accounting issues, supporting audit activities, and maintaining the Group's technical accounting manual. This position plays a critical role in assisting Technical Accounting Lead by maintaining accounting compliance and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Technical Accounting Execution Prepare and document technical accounting analyses for moderately complex and non-routine transactions, including those related to investments, financial instruments, business combinations, leases, and corporate restructuring. Draft technical memos and accounting position papers for review and endorsement by the Head, Technical Accounting Unit. Conduct technical research and benchmarking to support accounting decisions, applying MFRS, IFRS, regulatory guidance, and industry practices. Provide hands-on technical support to subsidiaries on the correct application of accounting standards and EPF's accounting policies. 2. Implementation of Accounting Standards and Policy Support the implementation of new or amended MFRS/IFRS standards, including conducting impact assessments and documenting required accounting treatments. Assist in drafting and rolling out internal accounting guidelines, practical application notes, and technical position updates. Monitor compliance with Group-wide technical accounting policies and ensure consistency in application across all EPF entities. 3. External Firm Strategy and Delivery Model Support the Head of Technical Accounting Unit and Head of Tax & Technical Accounting in managing the engagement of external accounting service providers for accounting services and statutory audits. Coordinate the tracking, monitoring, and reporting of external firm performance, with emphasis on timeliness, quality, and compliance with Group policies and accounting standards. Conduct cost-benefit analyses for outsourcing vs insourcing financial reporting tasks and provide data-driven recommendations. Contribute to the annual assessment of accounting function effectiveness across EPF subsidiaries, especially with regard to outsourced vs in-house delivery models. Ensure the deliverables from external firms meet EPF's technical documentation standards, reporting timelines, and policy requirements. 4. Financial Reporting and Audit Support Review financial statements and supporting schedules to ensure technical accuracy and compliance with relevant accounting standards and disclosure requirements, while supporting the audit process by responding to technical accounting queries and facilitating timely resolution of accounting technical issues. Support the year-end and quarterly close processes by preparing or reviewing technical journal entries, impairment assessments, and significant accounting estimates. Act as a key liaison with external auditors for technical matters, providing required documentation and justifications to support EPF's accounting positions. 5. Group Coordination and Communication Collaborate with Group and Subsidiary Finance teams to support accurate application of technical standards and resolve technical accounting queries. Assist in preparing and delivering training materials, briefings, or knowledge-sharing sessions to enhance technical capabilities across the finance function. Maintain and update the central repository for technical memos, policy documents, templates, and standardised technical responses. 6. Continuous Improvement and Documentation Maintain thorough, high-quality documentation and a strong audit trail for all technical accounting matters handled. Identify and recommend improvements to technical accounting workflows, documentation practices, and issue-tracking processes. Keep up to date with changes in accounting standards and industry developments and provide early alerts on emerging issues. JOB REQUIREMENTS Possess a Bachelor's degree or Master's in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent field which is recognized by the Government from any local or abroad higher learning institution. Professional qualification (ACCA, CPA, ICAEW, MICPA or equivalent) is compulsory. Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in technical accounting, external audit, or financial reporting - preferably in a Big 4 accounting firm or large corporate finance team. Strong technical knowledge of MFRS, IFRS, and financial reporting frameworks. Demonstrated ability to draft technical position papers and perform detailed accounting reviews. Analytical mindset, detail-oriented, and capable of executing responsibilities independently. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to coordinate effectively with internal stakeholders and external auditors. Malaysian citizen. Obtain a pass in Bahasa Melayu, including an oral test in Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) level or equivalent qualification recognised by the Government.
