This is a crucial role for minimizing legal risks, issues, and disputes by strategizing, advising, drafting, reviewing, and negotiating on various contractual and other documentation. The position has a particular focus on wealth management and treasury-related products and services , as well as supporting the Global Markets division. The successful candidate will also be involved in handling litigation or disputes brought against the Bank. The successful candidate(s) will report to the Head of Legal. Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities Functional (job responsibilities) Provide proactive, in-depth, and business-focused legal advice to various disciplines and functions within the Bank and the Bank Group to minimize legal risks, issues, and disputes. Review, draft, and negotiate a broad range of documentation, including banking, business, commercial, and transactional documents, while balancing legal and regulatory requirements. Partner with cross-functional teams, including legal teams of subsidiaries and overseas branches, to identify, analyze, and mitigate legal risks related to business initiatives, projects, operations, and new products. Assist the Head of Legal in implementing initiatives and processes to improve the delivery of the legal function, particularly in supporting the Global Markets division. Manage and monitor litigation and disputes against the Bank/Bank Group, including claims, investigations, and litigation with employees, customers, and other third parties. Ensure compliance with legal and governance requirements when working on product design and modification in relation to banking products and commercial transactions. Provide legal advisory on the protection of the Bank's assets. Actively support projects by providing legal advice. Jobholder Requirements Malaysian citizen Education/Qualification Bachelor of Laws (LLB) (Hons) Preferably an Advocate & Solicitor of the Malaysian Bar Experience/Requirements At least 8 years of Post-Qualification Experience (PQE) gained from a general practice with an established Malaysian legal firm, specializing in areas such as banking, conveyancing, corporate finance, restructuring, or banking litigation. Alternatively, in-house counsel experience with a strong working knowledge of banking and financial services in Malaysia is also acceptable. Demonstrable expertise in Malaysian laws, with a specific focus on banking and finance. Proven experience in drafting and negotiating ISDA Master Agreements and related collateral agreements (CSA, GMRA, FX Master Agreements) with counterparties across various jurisdictions as well as knowledge of structured products and derivatives, would be an added advantage. Possesses commercial acumen, resourcefulness, and the ability to work with minimal supervision while maintaining excellent attention to detail. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English, coupled with strong organizational and interpersonal abilities. Proven ability to effectively engage with a diverse range of stakeholders and colleagues at all levels. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
