We're looking for a Junior Legal Associate with a long game in mind, someone who doesn't just want a job, but is building toward partnership or running their own practice one day. If that's you, and you're willing to put in the work, both on legal execution and business development, we want to hear from you. The role focuses on corporate and commercial matters, but experience in litigation, real estate, or company secretarial work is a strong plus. What You&aposll Be Doing Drafting and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts, including shareholder agreements, joint ventures, service agreements, franchise/licensing models, and governance frameworks. Supporting corporate transactions from end to end: due diligence, structuring, negotiation, closings, and post-deal implementation. Advising on compliance, governance, and regulatory risk across diverse sectors including fintech, retail, energy, healthcare, and professional services. Handling company secretarial and corporate governance matters: incorporations, board resolutions, AGMs, regulatory filings, and oversight reporting for both private and licensed entities. Assisting with contentious matters such as shareholder disputes, contractual claims, employment matters, and land-related litigation. Preparing and managing applications for sector-specific licences, including Labuan FSA approvals (e.g. Money Broking, Credit Token Business), SC licensing strategy, and related structuring. Supporting constitutional, legislative, and policy advisory work with state governments and public institutions, including inter-agency frameworks, regulatory design, and drafting input. Attending client meetings, strategy sessions, and negotiations, building trust and delivering clarity, not just sitting in. Contributing to business development and firm growth: pitch decks, legal briefings, proposals, and ongoing client engagement. What We&aposre Looking For 1-3 years PQE , with practical exposure to corporate law and commercial matters. Strong legal drafting skills and ability to understand the deal beyond the documents. Bonus: experience in general litigation, real estate, or cosec filings. Business-minded: you think like a lawyer, and like someone who understands how business works. Proactive, reliable, self-managed, and not afraid to step up in front of clients. Fluent in both English and Bahasa Malaysia: We value sharp English, but if you&aposre not equally comfortable drafting a surat rasmi or engaging effectively in Bahasa Malaysia, you&aposll miss half the conversation. Many of our clients and stakeholders - ministries, regulators, GLCs etc. operate natively in Malay. We work with them just as much as startups and international clients, so fluency in both isn't optional, it's the job . Strong working proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel - formatting matters. If you can't produce clean, properly structured documents, even good advice will fall flat. Admission to the Malaysian Bar is not mandatory, we welcome applications from fresh graduates who have recently completed their chambering and are ready to step into a fast-paced, hands-on role. Interest in company secretarial work is encouraged; candidates aiming to obtain a company secretarial licence will be prioritised and supported. We operate on an unlimited leave policy - it works because we trust our team to manage their time responsibly, and deliver without being policed. Who This Role Suits This role is for someone who: Wants to build a long-term career, not just clock in and out. Sees clients as relationships, not just files. Is open to learning how the business side of a law firm works. Takes responsibility for timelines, output, and follow-through. To Apply Please send your CV and a curated cover letter to [HIDDEN TEXT] , and copy [HIDDEN TEXT] in your email. Your cover letter should briefly address the following: What do you understand about the kind of legal work this firm actually does If appointed, how would you specifically contribute, not just legally, but in how the firm grows Your expected remuneration and preferred working arrangement - be creative, realistic, and intentional. What are you looking for in a firm or work environment, and why do you think this one fits Highlight one deal, project, or piece of work (academic, professional, or personal) you&aposre most proud of, and why it reflects how you work. ( If your cover letter sounds like ChatGPT on autopilot, we'll assume you work that way too ) Estimated start date: sometime in August 2025 . That said, if you're the right fit, we're willing to wait, or even buy out your contract. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. Show more Show less
