We are looking for a Translation Specialist to join our Japanese Content Team. This is an amazing opportunity to work on patent & trademark supplying contents for Derwent Innovation & CompuMark. The team consists of 13 team members and reports to the team lead. This role utilizes subject matter expertise in technical fields such as engineering & chemistry to perform machine translation post editing & proofreading of Japanese patent contents mainly from Japanese into English, translating patent inventor & assignee names as well as translating trademark applicant & agent names from Japanese into English. We have a great skill set in translation and we would love to speak with you if you have skills in Japanese language, patent drafting or searching, translation, editing, proofreading or quality reporting. About You - experience, education, skills & accomplishments Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) N1 or N2 certificate for non-native Japanese. Excellent read & written Japanese, and excellent read, spoken & written English. An engineering, chemistry or Japanese language related degree required, masters or advanced degree preferred. Excellent written & verbal communication skills. Good data analysis skills using Microsoft Excel, Power BI or other data analysis tools. Effective time management and organizational skills with the ability to set priorities and achieve deadlines & targets. A team player with the ability to work under own initiative, driving concept to conclusion. It would be great if you also had . . . Previous experience as a linguist. Previous experience in handling Japanese-English content translation. Previous experience in translation/content quality control. A customer-driven approach and good commercial awareness. What will you be doing in this role Participate in quality assurance checks for translation of assignee & inventor names of Japanese patent applications, and translation of applicant & agent names of Japanese trademark applications. Analyze quality checks from daily publications of Japanese patents to drive daily selection & allocation of translated patent records for editorial enhancement. Participate in quality assurance checks of daily Japanese patent translation and perform dictionary registrations & adjustment of the original writing to improve the translation quality within the expected timeline. Review editorial suggestions applied to local translation dictionaries, approve valid suggestions, and oversee updates to master dictionaries. Review and approve suggestions and manage updates to the translation memory. Manage customer cases assigned by the customer service desk & operational requests for translation enhancement, allocate retranslation/enhancement requests and manage any associated updates to the master dictionaries & translation memory. Provide data analysis & reporting from periodic quality benchmarking reviews. Provide analysis & feedback of quality assurance data to external vendors to drive continuous content improvement. Provide analysis & suggestions for process & content improvements as part of the daily role or through participation in project teams. Undertake any other reasonable duties as requested by the team lead on a permanent or temporary basis. About the team Patent content team performs machine-assisted translation of patents sourced from Japan/China/Korea patent offices from the local languages into English language where the Japanese Content Team provides machine translation post editing & translation content curation of Japanese patents in engineering & chemistry technology areas. The team also does quality assessment on machine translation output and create data set to improve quality of the translation engine. Furthermore, the team supports translation requests from other business units as well as being the gatekeeper of translation quality. There will be chances to work with various internal stakeholders of different business units and locations in this role. Hours of work This is a permanent full time position.
