Job Title: STEAM Senior Teacher Location: KL Terms: 1-year contract Salary: RM3,500 - RM4,200 Start Date: August 2025 Work Day: Monday - Friday (Including weekends if necessary) Work Schedule: Teach in Buku Jalanan Chow Kit 2 days per week, Run Maker Club activities within Selangor (at least one day per week) About us: Arus Academy is an education social enterprise specialising in creating high-quality education solutions for students and teachers in Malaysia. Arus is continually seeking ways to make education more accessible and impactful through both systemic and grassroots approaches. We advocate for five main literacy areas: STEAM education, financial literacy, media and information literacy, social and emotional learning, and global citizenship education. In our mission to empower today's problem solvers, we have been running year-long school programmes with students from Buku Jalanan Chow Kit. On top of that, we run nationwide programmes for students and teachers based on the five literacy areas. Responsibilities: Nurture innovative and creative thinking skills among students: Build relationships, teach, motivate and inspire students to think critically so that they are able to build technological solutions to solve real-world problems. Teach Science to secondary school students. Facilitate engaging, cross-disciplinary STEAM sessions that cater to a wide range of ages and learning styles. Design and support student-led projects based on learners' interests, current events, and real-world issues. Manage a classroom of diverse learners working at different paces and on different goals. Use informal instruction techniques to build relationships and mentor learners beyond content. Collaborate with other educators to integrate learning themes and continuously improve the program. Create a safe, inclusive, and inspiring learning environment. Reflect critically on your teaching and the world we live in-bringing current, meaningful questions into your sessions. Nurture a community around our Maker Programmes: Engage local stakeholders and organise events or initiatives that enhance overall learning experiences. Plan and coordinate logistics for programme events or initiatives, including managing budgets and expenses. Curate and create opportunities that connect local innovation field stakeholders. Plan and implement events or initiatives that bring together community support for our Maker Programmes Handle registration and enrollment processes and coordinate with vendors or service providers to secure necessary supplies or services. Collaborate with other teams and departments to ensure necessary resources are in place. Prepare students for events & competitions. Support nationwide STEAM projects implementation: Support the rollout of nationwide STEAM projects in Selangor, from planning to execution. Work with other teams and departments to ensure all necessary resources are available. Help run workshops for both teachers and students. Who we're looking for: Strong belief that every child deserves access to quality education, regardless of background. Lifelong learner with a curious mind and a critical view of the world. Experience working with children or teens, ideally in informal or project-based learning environments. Excellent communication skills and emotional intelligence; naturally compassionate and respectful in student interactions. Flexible and adaptable in dynamic learning settings. Passionate about innovative teaching methods that help students learn effectively. Background in coding or STEAM subjects is highly preferred. Comfortable working across various STEAM disciplines. Familiarity or proficiency in at least one coding language is a plus, but not required. Experience with maker tools, design thinking, coding, or creative technologies is highly valued. Proficient in Google Workspace is highly desired. Must be able to work from the KL office and travel independently to different work sites if needed. Must be willing to travel for outstation work; related costs will be covered by Arus. Proficient in both written and spoken English and Bahasa Melayu. Due to outreach programs at SJKC or Independent Chinese Schools in the Klang Valley, proficiency in Mandarin (spoken and written) is highly desired.
