We identify database problems, provide solutions and also build automation platforms to automate repeatable operation work in the most efficient and optimized way. Our team is passionate about the details and work very closely with a wide range of stakeholders. You will have opportunities to work on different database technologies with a large scale. It's very important that our team members take initiatives to identify problems, and have the right mindset and problem solving skills.The day-to-day activities:You will be responsible for monitoring day to day PostgreSQL, MariaDB and or other OLTP database systems in terms of operations and managementPerform database capacity planning and maintenance, monitoring and performance tuningDiagnose any database issues and employ measures to prevent recurrenceWork with engineering and operations team in building tooling to drive scalability, reliability and performanceResearch and develop new technologies and approaches for building highly available data persistence systemsAdvice and support product, engineering, support and operation teamsParticipate in on-call rotationsQualificationsThe must haves:Preferably a degree in computer science, software engineering, information technology or related fieldsDeep understanding and real passion for relational database theory and database fundamentalsDeep understanding of PostgreSQL internals (understanding of MySQL/MariaDB internal engine would be an added plus)Proficiency with Linux system administrationExtensive experience with installation, management, upgrades, backup and restore of large PostgreSQL, MariaDB and or other OLTP database system installationsExperience benchmarking, clustering and tuning the databases for performance, reliability, high availability and scalabilityExperience in automation development, shell, python or GolangFamiliar with a key-value store or data structure database (such as Redis, ElasticSearch et al)Experience with AWS RDS / Elasticache / other AWS Database Services or experience with management of databases in AWS environment will a strong plusStrong CS fundamentals (with competencies in algorithms and data structures)Additional InformationOur CommitmentWe recognize that with these individual attributes come different workplace challenges, and we will work with Grabbers to address them in our journey towards creating inclusion at Grab for all Grabbers.
