Job Description: The Senior Legal Counsel will play a key role in managing all legal aspects of the organization, particularly in supporting commercial partnerships with merchants, payment providers, and other strategic stakeholders. This role is instrumental in ensuring operational compliance across jurisdictions while aligning legal strategy with business objectives. Key Responsibilities: Legal Advisory & Strategy: Provide expert legal guidance on matters related to digital payments, financial services, e-commerce, IP, and commercial operations. Stay abreast of regulatory developments and advise leadership on legal implications. Contract Management: Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements including merchant service agreements, payment processor contracts, and technology/vendor agreements, ensuring alignment with internal policies and risk appetite. Regulatory Compliance: Collaborate with compliance and risk teams to uphold legal standards related to AML/CFT, data protection (e.g., GDPR/PDPA), consumer rights, and licensing. Assist in regulatory filings, audits, and inquiries. Risk & Dispute Management: Identify legal risks and propose pragmatic solutions. Manage external legal counsel and lead responses to disputes, claims, or investigations. Corporate Governance: Support governance-related duties, including group structure, secretarial responsibilities, and internal legal reporting. Assist with legal aspects of investment, financing, and restructuring initiatives. Requirements Requirements: Holds a recognized Law degree (LL.B Hons) and has been called to the Bar in at least one jurisdiction. Brings a minimum of 8 years' post-qualification experience , including legal practice in litigation or corporate conveyancing , as well as prior in-house counsel experience-preferably in fintech, digital commerce, or the tech sector . Possesses a solid understanding of commercial contracts , regulatory compliance , and cross-border legal issues . Familiarity with digital platforms , merchant relationships , or financial service partnerships is considered a strong advantage.
