What you'll do (impact in your first year) Design & scale our l ake/lakehouse and Medallion-style data models for trustworthy analytics and reporting. Build robust ETL/ELT for diverse sources (APIs, files, SaaS, event streams); optimize for cost, reliability, and performance. Implement data observability (freshness, volume, schema, distribution) and end-to-end lineage (e.g., OpenLineage) to keep pipelines healthy and audits painless. Establish security & governance (access controls, PII handling) and documentation (ERDs, architecture). Partner with Product, Data Science, Engineering, and Go-To-Market to ship data products that enable carbon accounting & disclosure. Mentor teammates on best practices (testing, CI/CD, code reviews, orchestration). What you'll need A Bachelor&aposs degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. 4+ years in data engineering with end-to-end pipelines for batch structured data (streaming a plus). Strong in Python/SQL (PySpark/Scala a plus) and distributed processing (Spark). Hands-on with a major cloud ( AWS/GCP/Azure ) and an orchestrator (Airflow/Dagster). Experience with modern warehouses/lakehouses (e.g., Databricks, Snowflake, Redshift ) and data modeling. Comfortable owning architecture decisions, trade-offs, and cross-team communications. Bonus points Streaming (Kafka/Kinesis/PubSub), semi-/unstructured pipelines. Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), CI/CD, testing. Vector Databases and retrieval pipelines; geospatial or time-series data. Climate reporting domain (GHG Protocol scopes 1-3, CDP, IFRS S2), and familiarity with DEFRA/regional emission factors.
