- Research and Development: Conduct research to identify emerging trends, technologies, and materials in the print and packaging industry. Design experiments, analyze data, and develop prototypes to test new concepts and validate feasibility.
- Print Engineering: Lead the development and optimization of printing processes, including flexography, offset printing, digital printing, and other advanced printing techniques. Design packaging structures and materials to meet performance requirements, optimize cost, and ensure compatibility with production processes.
- Packaging Engineering: Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices within your designated categories. Share knowledge with the team and incorporate new developments into packaging design and engineering.
- Material Selection and Testing: Evaluate various substrates, inks, coatings, adhesives, and other materials for use in packaging applications. Perform testing to assess material properties and compatibility with printing processes and end-use requirements.
- Collaboration and Cross-Functional Leadership: Collaborate with internal teams, including product development, manufacturing, quality assurance, and marketing, to integrate print and packaging solutions into new product development initiatives. Provide technical guidance and support to cross-functional teams to ensure successful execution of projects.
- Innovation and Continuous Improvement: Drive innovation by proposing and implementing new ideas, technologies, and processes to improve print quality, packaging functionality, and sustainability. Identify opportunities for cost reduction, efficiency improvement, and environmental impact reduction through process optimization and material substitution.
- Project Management: Lead and manage R&D projects related to print and packaging development. Communicate project status, milestones, and risks to stakeholders and senior management.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, standards, and industry guidelines governing print and packaging materials, including sustainability and environmental regulations.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Packaging Engineering, or related field. Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in print and packaging development, preferably in a research and development or innovation-driven environment.
- Strong technical expertise in printing processes, packaging materials, and material testing methodologies.
- Proficiency in design software (e.g., CAD, Adobe Creative Suite) and engineering analysis tools.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex technical issues and develop creative solutions.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally and lead multidisciplinary teams.
- Project management experience, including project planning, execution, and reporting.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards related to print and packaging materials (e.g., FDA, ASTM, ISO).
- Attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
- Experience in a leadership or mentoring role is a plus.
