The Role Responsibilities Job Role Providing Legal advice and support to GBS on local laws at GBS locations and GBS specific business and functional initiatives Handling Contract reviews and provide advice and support for Legal risk management in GBS Providing legal support and advice to stakeholders across the bank on: Group and single country technology, outsourcing, and commercial matters (both intragroup and external Third-Party Vendors) intellectual property matters including trademarks, copyright, patents, sponsorship arrangements commercial supplier contracts and regulatory projects and associated remediation work as per the revised target operating model for GBS lawyers. Supporting GBS Governance activities, regulatory and government audits and investigations in GBS Providing counsel and support on matters relating to Conduct Handling Litigation and non-major Disputes Management including Managing external legal counsel and Legal spend Collaborating with other Legal teams -Client Business, Product and Country Legal Teams and Legal Practice Groups -- to foster a one team mindset and present the Legal function as one unit when dealing with stakeholders. Providing Legal support to Supply Chain Management, Property, Information, Technology & Innovation, Compliance, Governance and Risk teams, as and when needed. Strategy Support the Head Legal, GBS to Implement the vision, strategy and direction of the GBS Legal Team (GBS Legal). Develop the legal service delivery model and a best-in-class legal operational approach to the team's global legal activity, including through the adoption of legal technology. Develop thought leadership capability - as demonstrated by visibility within the Group and externally (in the industry) - as a senior point of contact for GBS Legal related legal advice and expertise. Promote a culture and practice of good conduct of business and adherence to legal standards within the Group. Business Take responsibility for providing legal advice, guidance and support to business units and stakeholders across GBS on all legal matters. This will include intragroup outsourcing and other services provided by GBS to the SCB Group, vendor and other third-party contracts for GBS, third party risk management and country legal support for GBS. Maintain close relationships with stakeholders including the GBS Management Teams and other committees within GBS and to proactively provide them with relevant legal advice, guidance and support on relevant legal and regulatory issues. Provide support on regulatory remediation and operational transformation initiatives and related change management in respect of processes, policies, standards and contract documentation. Support the Head Legal / legal team during escalation of any material legal issues for GBS. Manage or support disputes involving GBS in line with Group requirements, including in respect of disputes in relation to other SCB Group entities to the extent GBS entities are involved in the dispute. Manage or support cross border investigations and information request orders involving GBS in line with Group requirements and in conjunction with the DGIL Team. Ensure close coordination with other Legal teams to ensure optimal legal support and advice is provided on GBS Legal matters. Drive best practice and lessons learned across the network and create and provide training on legal issues related to GBS Legal activities. Processes Responsible for adhering to the Group Contracts Policy, the Group's Third-Party Risk Management Framework and related policies and standards. Adhere to the team's Department Operating Instructions for third party contracts and keep them under review. Support with continuous improvement initiatives in relation to contract management processes, workflow and other process and legal operations tools as well as contract playbooks, guidance and templates. Follow frameworks to identify, assess, manage, monitor, mitigate and report legal matters related to GBS Legal activities. Keep up to date with Group policies and standards and applicable law across the Group. Where external counsel is appointed, manage those appointments in accordance with the Group Engaging External Counsel policy including ensuring the scope of work is defined and appropriate, overseeing the quality of work and managing external legal costs. People and Talent To be self-motivated and undergoing training to ensure professional and personal development. Assist the Head Legal in maintaining a motivated GBS Legal team. Engage relevant stakeholders (e.g. business functions, support functions and Legal colleagues) to obtain regular feedback on GBS Legal' s performance. Provide input at business, function and country levels (as appropriate) on legal matters which may have a bearing on GBS Legal matters. Risk Management Assist the Head Legal, GBS / GBS legal team to perform responsibilities of Risk Sub Type Owner for the Legal Enforceability Risk Sub Type as set out in the Enterprise Risk Management Framework in relation to GBS Legal activities as required pursuant to the Operational Risk Type Framework and associated policies and standards. Within the Group's overall Risk Management Framework, assist the Head Legal, GBS / GBS legal team members to establish and maintain an appropriate risk-based approach to assessing, measuring, monitoring, managing and reporting Legal Risk arising from material laws and regulations. Maintain an awareness and understanding of the top risks facing the Group and the role played by Legal and related risk owners in managing them. Ensure proactive and timely identification, dissemination and advice on legal horizon risks that may have a significant impact on GBS Legal activities. Governance Assist Head Legal, GBS in the governance of GBS Legal activities by ensuring that any papers relating to GBS Legal matters being tabled at Board, Court or any other Group or Country governance committees have been reviewed and clearly articulate the risks and issues involved. Ensure effective management of legal matters handled by GBS Legal. Challenge fellow executives effectively. Regulatory and Business Conduct Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group's Values and Code of Conduct. Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank. This includes understanding and ensuring compliance with, in letter and spirit, all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and the Group Code of Conduct. Effectively and collaboratively identify, escalate, mitigate and resolve risk, conduct and compliance matters. Key Stakeholders GBS Business teams Business and functional stakeholders, including Supply Chain Management, Property, Tax, Technology and Innovation, Group Operations, and the CCIB and CPBB businesses Enterprise Legal Team External legal counsel LCS Team Other Responsibilities Embed Here for good and Group's brand and values in the GBS Legal team Perform other responsibilities assigned under Group, Country, Business or Functional policies and procedures Multiple functions (double hats) Our Ideal Candidate Must be a qualified lawyer in a common law jurisdiction (solicitor, attorney or barrister) with 5+ years' post qualification experience. Certified solicitor from UK and Malaysia is preferred but not required. Certification Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP) from Legal Profession Qualifying Board,' Malaysia or Barrister at Law from the Inns of UK Role Specific Technical Competencies Order from High Court of Malaya confirming the candidate is admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor in Malaysia A license to practice as an Advocate and Solicitor in Malaysia from Malaysian Bar Council About Standard Chartered We're an international bank, nimble enough to act, big enough for impact.
