The Geotechnician/technician will work alongside the Senior Technicians and Site Manager within Geotek's core scanning laboratories at the client site in Kuala Lumpur. Each Geotechnician/technician will be trained in how to operate Geotek core scanning technology and will be responsible for the data acquisition and first-pass quality control of the data. The role will also involve the careful handling of geological samples in preparation for core scanning along with data transmittal to the site manager for approval. Job Responsibilities: Acquisition of data from Geotek Core Scanning equipment including: X-ray CT, Hyperspectral imaging, core photography and petrophysical measurements Handling and preparation of core samples for measurement. Calibration of sensors, first pass data processing, and QAQC of the data. Preparation of electronic data and QAQC parameters for Site Manager approval Working with Site Manager and a team of 3 others to deliver data on time to customer. Job Requirements: One (1) year experience with a Certificate / Diploma / Degree in Geology/geophysics/earth science. New graduates with a strong foundation in geology/geophysics/earth science/STEM degrees are welcome to apply as well. Minimum one (1) year experience in handling, managing, and acquiring geo-sample digital data images (core photography) preferred but not essential; Minimum one (1) year experience in geological operation and provide technical experts on daily operation and sample handling preferred but not essential; Minimum one (1) year experience in handling, managing and operating geo-sample preparation for core cutting, slabbing, grinding, and plugging equipment preferred but not essential; Proficient with Microsoft Office applications in particular Microsoft Excel and Word Accuracy, numeracy and attention to detail expected Good problem-solving skills and ability to work autonomously Good interpersonal, presentation, organizational skills Must be able to speak and write English fluently Willingness to learn and deliver to tight deadlines Effective communication skills, and ability to work as part of a small team. An interest in downhole logging, remote sensing or laboratory techniques would be preferred for this role. Must be available to work during the weekend if required.
