JOB DESCRIPTION: The Senior Technical Claims Specialist manages a portfolio of Marine claims throughout the entire claim lifecycle, delivering efficient and accurate claims handling. This role involves conducting thorough investigations, raising appropriate reserves, monitoring progress, documenting developments, and settling or closing claims promptly and cost-effectively, all within prescribed authority limits. The role also serves as a primary technical referral point for claims managed by the PST team that are within the incumbent's delegated authority. Manage a portfolio of Marine claims from both Commercial & Specialty and Retail channels through the entire claim lifecycle. First point of technical referral for Marine claims in PST, for matters within prescribed authority. Review and interpret policy coverage to ensure correct indemnity and adjustment outcomes. Responsible for initiating technical and other referrals to onshore team and/or external advisors as and when needed. Manage and adjust all assigned or referred claims, collaborating with offshore, onshore and processing teams as well as external providers and stakeholders as necessary. Establish and set reserves for indemnity and related costs, regularly reviewing them to ensure adequacy. Authorise payments in accordance with internal procedures and authority limits, settling claims efficiently and cost-effectively. Provide proactive, consistently excellent claims service to internal and external stakeholders, including clients, agents and brokers to effectively differentiate Liberty. Identify recovery/subrogation opportunities and coordinate with the Recovery team and/or agreed external providers to pursue all viable options; prepare files for litigation, trial, or subrogation as required. Actively participate in mediation and arbitration sessions, engaging in settlement discussions where needed. Report critical loss developments to management and advise on relevant portfolio trends. Collaborate closely with underwriting and risk engineering teams to support Liberty's integrated business unit approach, ensuring seamless underwriting and claims management delivery. Participate in claims audits and quality checks as needed. Responsible for planning and conducting training for PST colleagues, and responsible for reviewing work done by others to ensure compliance with specified service level agreements and expected technical standards. Identify suspicious or potentially fraudulent claims, arranging investigations and briefing senior management when further action is warranted. Consistently demonstrate behaviour aligned with Liberty's core values. Ensure compliance with all legal, statutory, and corporate requirements in a timely manner. Take initiative and responsibility for ongoing development of both technical and soft skills. Perform other duties as assigned by your manager. ABOUT YOU: Exceptional attention to detail. Strong verbal and written communication skills in English as the role requires liaising with English speaking stakeholders and the ability to read Mandarin would be ideal as the role requires handling some policies based in China. Proficient in PC-based systems and applications, including Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database systems for managing contacts, schedules, and calendars.
