Role: Leadership Development ManagerStart Date: ImmediateEmployment Type: Full time, 1-Year Contract (RenewableLocation: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (North Peninsular Malaysia) Perak / Pulau Pinang / KedahReporting Line: Head of Training & SupportRole PurposeLeads the design and delivery of personalised coaching and leadership development for Fellows across all Fellowship pathways, while managing a team of Leadership Development Officers (LDOs) and strengthening strategic partnerships within placement communities.Principal Accountabilities * Coach Fellows to build their leadership and pedagogical practice through classroom observations, coaching conversations, and development planning, ensuring they meet ambitious student and leadership goals - using insights from Fellow and student data to identify development gaps, shape coaching strategies and contribute to programme refinement
  • Manage and support a small team of Leadership Development Officers by providing coaching, feedback, and performance support (including performance management) to ensure effective Fellow development.
  • Design and facilitate Fellow development experiences such as Professional Learning. Communities (PLCs), workshops, and other training structures, in collaboration with the Design & Training team.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with diverse internal and external stakeholders including school leaders, district and state education offices, MOE representatives, and private sector partners or funders to ensure contextual relevance, alignment, and sustained programme impact across all levels of engagement.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with other teams within Teach For Malaysia including the Partnership Development team and Community Mobilisation team to ensure an integrated Fellow experience, aligned strategy, and cohesive support across all functions.
  • Localise national Fellowship strategies to meet regional needs, leveraging contextual knowledge to ensure equity, relevance, and consistent Fellow development across diverse placements.
  • As part of the Fellowship Training & Support Leadership team, build and maintain team culture that upholds the Teach For Malaysia Core Values.

  • Demonstrated experience in teaching (minimum 2 years), preferably in diverse or high-need school environments.
  • Proven track record in coaching, adult learning facilitation, or teacher/leader development.
  • Skilled in applying coaching frameworks, learning cycles, and development planning approaches to support individual and collective growth.
  • Comfortable analysing and applying data to drive instructional improvement and leadership development, and able to guide team members in using data effectively for decision-making and reflective practice.
  • Experienced in stakeholder engagement, particularly with public schools, government education departments, and community stakeholders.
  • Strong command of pedagogical approaches such as differentiated learning, understanding of assessments, or inquiry-based learning. Experience in literacy and numeracy is an added advantage.
  • Demonstrates respect, humility, and cultural sensitivity when working with diverse communities, with the ability to suspend judgment and approach stakeholders with empathy and curiosity.
  • Brings strong leadership competencies, including team development, influence without authority, and aligning team efforts toward shared outcomes.
  • Proficiency in digital tools (e.g. Google Suite, Zoom) and a growth mindset in learning new platforms and systems.

Experiences & qualification
  • Minimum of 4 years working experience, including at least 2 years of classroom teaching. Background in social impact is an added advantage.
  • Prior experience in coaching, mentoring, or adult learning required; management of individuals/teams is a plus.
  • Familiarity with the Malaysian education system and experience working with schools, district/state officials, or education-related projects preferred.
  • A Bachelor's degree in any field is required, with a basic teaching qualification such as a PGCE or DPLI.
  • Willingness to travel and work flexible hours including weekends and on-site training over extended periods of time when necessary to support Fellows and programme needs.
