Okapi Solar is an early stage VC-backed startup that is disrupting the residential solar sales and financing industry in Malaysia & Southeast Asia. Okapi distributes our proprietary underwriting technology with point-of-sale credit approvals to our network of Installer Partners that drives market expansion, increased conversion rates, and faster sales cycles. Our in-house asset management platform provides 24/7 visibility and predictive analytics to maximise asset uptime and minimize delinquencies. We have close to 500 solar systems financed, more than 50 Installer Partners, and are the leading residential solar fintech in the region. The Finance Director will play a crucial role to ensure our finance function is able to scale alongside the business. This is a key leadership role reporting directly to the CEO, and will be responsible for building a foundational set of scalable systems and robust processes for financial reporting, tax compliance, audit. As an early hire in a small and nimble team, you will be an integral part of the company's future success. Roles and Responsibilities: Financial Operations & Control Set up and manage day-to-day financial operations (payments, receivables, payroll, etc.) Own the general ledger and chart of accounts Ensure timely monthly closings and reconciliations Manage external accountants, auditors, and tax agents Develop and maintain internal controls and financial policies Accounting & Reporting Prepare monthly management accounts (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) Ensure compliance with local & regional accounting standards Develop accounting memos to document and justify accounting treatments for judgment-based items Implement accrual accounting for solar assets and enforce proper documentation of transactions Own and manage the annual audit process Fundraising & Capital Structuring Support Support CEO with investor reporting, financial modeling, and data rooms Structure debt and equity capital for solar asset financing (e.g., SPVs, warehouse facilities, asset-backed lending) Track covenants and fund drawdown requirements Regulatory compliance Manage corporate income tax filings and ensure timely submission of returns Ensure compliance with financial regulations, tax laws, and reporting obligations Structure payments and intercompany transactions to comply with transfer pricing rules Requirements: Experience : 8+ years of experience in finance, ideally in fintech lending, project finance, or equipment leasing sectors Communication : Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts in a clear and concise manner. Tech Savvy : Proficient in using accounting software, billing & sales platforms, and other relevant technologies. Passion for Renewable Energy : A genuine interest in solar energy and sustainability.
