The Director (Engineering Lead) will oversee engineering and manufacturing operations, ensuring projects are delivered efficiently and meet high-quality standards. This role requires strategic leadership to drive innovation and maintain operational excellence in the industrial and manufacturing industry.Products and Engineering:
  • Ensure design integrity and technical maturity of new products through detailed specifications, functional requirements, testing, safety and compliance standards, performance metrics, quality, predictive ratings, planning, and clear communication by the development engineering team.
  • Ensure that development activities for new products and product transfer projects are well communicated, clearly understood, and executed on schedule in accordance with established processes and project team agreements.
  • Oversee timely research and development of fundamental engineering related to products, including pre-development of critical technologies and sub-components to support product innovation.
  • Maintain product quality through rigorous design and proper documentation of all part and assembly drawings.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including sourcing, electronics, testing, project management, quality, marketing, and customer experience.
  • Ensure successful completion of development work contracted to external firms or suppliers, from initial specifications through to final evaluation.
Process and Planning:
  • Facilitate the use of the global product development process on all new projects, major changes to existing products, and product transfers to new production locations within the region.
  • Allocate and organise development resources efficiently across multiple sites to support approved projects, coordinating closely with Project Managers and Technical Team Leaders.
  • Work directly with suppliers throughout the region to ensure timely delivery across all aspects of the product development program, including core programs, product maintenance, and tooling capacity; this may involve frequent onsite visits.
  • Participate in setting and implementing departmental goals.
  • Plan and manage assigned budgets effectively.
People Management:
  • Structure the organisation to best meet business needs and work collaboratively with Program Management to staff projects appropriately.
  • Partner with Human Resources to recruit top local engineering talent.
  • Plan career development and assignments for team members, aligning individual growth with company objectives.
  • Enhance and sustain the reputation of the development engineering function as efficient, reliable, and effective within the organisation. Develop and track efficiency and reliability metrics, and maintain high team morale.
  • Conduct performance appraisals and participate in employment and compensation decisions in partnership with Human Resources.

Required Experience and Education:
  • Minimum of a four-year college degree in Mechanical, Electro-mechanical/Mechatronics, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • 15+ years of relevant experience in Electrical Appliance Product Engineering and Development, preferably in consumer appliances.
  • At least 8 years of proven leadership experience in product development for electrical-mechanical appliance products.
  • Solid foundation in engineering principles and technical project management, with demonstrated hands-on leadership in mentoring and supervising technical teams.
  • Proven track record managing people and projects across multiple locations, ideally within international organizations.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively at all organizational levels.
  • Strong technical expertise combined with a strategic marketing and business perspective.
