THE JOB As a Senior or Lead Mechanical Design Engineer at AIR, you will take the lead in designing, developing, and optimizing mechanical systems across our Devices. You will be responsible for leading product improvements, addressing market issues, improving reliability, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and providing innovative solutions to complex engineering challenges. This is hands-on prototyping, mock-up, this role offers the opportunity to work on high-impact projects, driving the company&aposs growth and shaping the future of our industry. The role will contribute and consult on Post-Production Support, New Product Introduction (NPI) and New Product Development (NPD), with the Post-Production Support expected to take up at least 50% of the time. As the RDD representative in Malaysia, the role will also take care of the workshop. RESPONSIBILITIES Possess developed level of design engineering expertise and assume responsibility for ensuring the development of robust and manufacturable designs. Develop a clear understanding of the problem at hand and specify the design requirements with clear, specific, and measurable objectives. Plan, manage and prioritize tasks, including monitoring progress and driving progress with other functions and suppliers. Investigate identified problems to uncover underlying causes and recommend appropriate actions to resolve problems and prevent recurrence. This can include the generation of a number of design concepts and systematically evaluating each concept to identify the optimal solution by creating mock-ups or hand prototypes to prove concept or design scheme. Conduct tolerance analysis to identify and quantify the impact of various sources of variability on the design. Ensure the final design can operate with acceptable performance at the production limits of the design parts. Identify potential risks associated with the design and develop strategies to mitigate or eliminate those risks. Work closely with cross functional team to conduct thorough risk assessments and use risk management tools to evaluate and prioritize risks. Proactively respond or escalate issues when required. Create detailed design specifications, Bill of Materials (BOM), 3D models, CAD drawings, and technical specifications. Continuously improve product quality, reduce costs, increase production throughput, and evaluate potential alternative suppliers or contract manufacturers in support of the Supply Chain team. Collaborate with manufacturing teams to assess and buy off the build process to ensure the design can be efficiently produced while maintaining quality standards. Good communication - present the problem, proposed solution, risks and opportunities with clarity and precision. Implement design changes via Product Lifecycle Management system, which includes raising and managing Change Orders and Change Requests and capturing Part Submissions or concessions. Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that the design is optimized for assembly, manufacturing, and cost. SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION Degree in Mechanical Engineering or comparable degree. 5 to 10 years in mechanical design engineering Experience in Consumer Electronics or Appliances will be an advantage Working experience or knowledge of engineering design tools (CAD such as SolidWorks, Adobe AI, Form2 3D Printer, or their equivalent). Experience in consumer electronics R&D, familiar with product development processes and best practices. DFMEA and PFMEA knowledge and applied experience. Able to formulate good design of experiments, consolidate and interpret data, analyse and then formulate conclusions and propose action plans Good working knowledge of materials commonly used in consumer electronics and their manufacturing processes and techniques, such as plastic injection Moulding, tooling DFM, and non-plastic manufacturing techniques (turning, CNC, sintering, sheet-metal bending etc) Proven experience in managing and troubleshooting issues that involves electronics integration. Experience in working on Heating Elements will be a plus. Good understanding of prototyping and product verification testing.
