OVERALL SCOPE OF JOB DESRIPTION The Barista is crucial in providing guests with a refined and memorable beverage experience at The Datai. The barista takes charge of preparing and serving high-quality coffee, tea, and specialty beverages, making sure every interaction reflects the hotel&aposs commitment to luxury service standards. The role serves as a support for breakfast service and collaborates with the food and beverage team to maintain excellence in presentation, efficiency, and guest satisfaction, in addition to operating the coffee bar. A passion for hospitality, attention to detail, and a profound understanding of beverage craftsmanship in a five-star environment are necessary for this position. The ideal candidate is passionate about promoting teamwork, displays a confident, professional manner, is flexible, has high energy levels, shows initiative and a sense of urgency, and adheres to confidentiality and a high level of passion. SPECIFIC DUTIES & PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES Coffee & Beverage Service: Prepare and produce a variety of high-quality coffee and tea beverages, as well as other specialty drinks, in accordance with hotel standards. Assist with morning breakfast operations, ensuring timely preparation and service of coffee and tea beverages. Operate and maintain all coffee-making equipment. Monitor coffee bean freshness and machine performance for optimal extraction through necessary calibration at all machines in the Food & Beverage outlets. Implement quality control measures for consistency and excellence. Maintain expert-level knowledge of coffee beans, brewing methods, and equipment. Guest Interaction: Provide warm, professional, and personalized service to guests in a refined, elegant manner. Attend to guest needs, manage complaints with appropriate follow-up and escalate when needed. Engage with guests to understand preferences and offer recommendations tailored to individual tastes. Inventory & Stock Management: Monitor inventory levels of coffee, teas, milk, juices, syrups, and pastries. Process requisitions using the Purchasing system while keeping cost and hotel occupancy in mind. Ensure proper stock rotation and storage as per health guidelines. Hygiene & Cleanliness: Maintain cleanliness of the coffee station and equipment. Dismantle and clean machinery regularly. Comply with all health, safety, and hygiene regulations. Team Support & Training: Train and guide team members to maintain service and beverage standards. Support opening and closing side duties of the bar. Refresher courses, supplier-led workshops, and internal coffee tasting sessions are conducted regularly to ensure every team member stays inspired, informed, and at the forefront of their craft. Other Responsibilities: Participate in work simplification and improvement initiatives. Support daily mis-en-place preparation before shifts. Support hotel sustainability initiatives related to coffee and beverage service. Maintain respectful and professional relationships with colleagues and management. Perform other duties as assigned by the manager. Administrative Responsibilities: To maintain all hotel records and forms as prescribed by established policies and procedures. To attend all briefings and meetings as requested and necessary. Conducts briefings and meetings as per established policies. REQUIRED SKILLS Minimum 1-2 years' experience as a Barista, ideally in a luxury hotel or high-end caf . Formal barista training or certification is highly desirable. Deep passion for coffee and service excellence. Good in the use of Microsoft Office (Microsoft Power Point, Excel and Word) Experience in hotel will be an advantage Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Reliable with patience and professionalism Impeccable grooming and professional appearance.
